After a long and courageous health battle fought on many fronts, Kelly Dee Cunningham met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C. Kelly was born prematurely in Charlotte, N.C., on May 21, 1961, and her battle to live started right then. She persevered and was raised by her parents, Peggy Lee White Cunningham and Hazel R. “HR” Cunningham in Charlotte. She was a graduate of West Charlotte High School and in 1984 became a proud alumna of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Kelly spent her career with Wells Fargo and Company, most recently as Vice President, Investment & Fiduciary Services Technology, where she was a dedicated and valued associate for over 30 years.
Kelly was a faithful member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Statesville, where she was a member of the Contemporary Sunday School Class and participated in a number of Bible studies.
Kelly was predeceased by her beloved mother, Peggy. She is survived by her father, HR Cunningham; her brother, Charles R. “Chuck” Cunningham; her nephew, Chase Joshua Cunningham; her niece, Adyson “Ady” Grace Cunningham; and her beloved cat, Jethro; as well as her cousins, who loved her dearly.
The family wants to thank the many friends and church family who helped Kelly, particularly during her last years. A heartfelt thanks to Jack Paxton, John Stafford, Jean Langdon, Mary Thompson, and Kathy Wilkinson for their loving care in Kelly’s final days.
A joint Memorial Service celebrating Kelly’s life as well as the life of her mother, Peggy, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, at Broad Street United Methodist Church with the Reverend Sonny Reavis officiating. Donations in Kelly’s memory can be made to the church at 315 West Broad Street, Statesville, NC 28677.
Nicholson Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family.
