Kenny Michael Mitchell, 73, of Union Grove, N.C., passed away July 18, 2024, at Gordon Hospice House after a lengthy illness. The son of Kenneth and Alda Prevette Mitchell, he was born in Iredell County on August 4, 1950.

He worked for many years at Fort Dobbs Historic Site before becoming disabled in 2003. All his life Kenny had a tremendous love for music and his knowledge of it was incredible. He had a great appreciation for nature and all wildlife, particularly racoons and hummingbirds. He loved recalling time spent around “the Grove” and had many very entertaining stories about some of the many notable characters, including himself. He loved racing during the years of #43.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bud, and a nephew, Gary.

Survivors include two brothers, Jack (Polly) and Colin (Jan); one sister Mary Alice Smith (Richard); and six nieces and nephews, Lynn, Sharon, Bryant, Angela, David and Randy.

The family would like to give a special thank you to his caregivers, especially Lorraine Gray, Nolan and Mike of the Union Grove Fire Department and the Union Grove Methodist Meals program.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
