Larry Lee Toohey, 77, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024,at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte.

Larry was born in Cave City, Ky., on May 4, 1947, to the late Thomas H. Toohey and Madelle Dunagan.

He attended the University of Kentucky (Go Big Blue Nation!), where he received a BS Degree in Dairy Science in 1969. He worked as a Dairy Manager in Herd Health in Florida until 1984, and then as a Computer Programmer/Analyst, Software Developer for the knitting industry in North Carolina from 1988 until retirement.

Larry was an active member of Rocky Mount Church for over 37 years. He was a true leader in the church for decades. He led the Thursday Night Men’s Bible Study, was a leader in Stephen Ministry, and prayed with the pastors and staff before services every Sunday. He led a 9:30 Sunday School class, led Discipleship training for years, led a weekly prayer group, and the list goes on and on. During the Christmas season, he could be found donning the red suit and bringing Santa to life for all who asked.

Larry was married to Margaret Headley Toohey, who survives, for 53 years. They had three children, who survive, Dawn Marie Toohey, Shana Lynn Toohey, and Benjamin Thompson Toohey (Shannon). In addition to his wife and children, Larry is survived by six grandchildren, Savannah and Alanna (Dawn), Kaylee, Emily, Wesley and Lily (Ben).

There will be a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, at Rocky Mount Church, Mooresville, with Rev. Jamie Hamrick officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
