Legacy Khalifa Freeman, who was affectionately known as Bud, was born in Iredell County on February 13, 2019, and was the son of Richard Olympic Freeman and Jenifer V. Nichols. He departed this life on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at his home following an accident.
He was a rising kindergarten student at New Beginnings Enrichment Center and recently graduated from pre-school. He loved playing with his Dad and loved dinosaurs, especially Brachiosaurus. He wanted to be a paleontologist, loved the beach, animals, “Jurassic world, dragon riders and bluey. His favorite things to eat were chicken nuggets, French fries, hot dogs, cheese pizza and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and lemonade.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles Richard Freeman and Aquilla Freeman; his maternal grandparents, James Nichols and Claudia Redmon; and an aunt, Vickie Lynn Woods.
In addition to his parents, Richard and Jenifer, he leaves to cherish the memory of his life two brothers, Andre Shuford of Statesville and Antonio Steele of the home; his aunts and uncles, Tomeka Nichols Benfield of Harmony, LaJanda Bell of Harmony, Deborah Ramseur of Statesville, Charles Rucker of Charlotte, Tabitha (Kevette( Weaver of Statesville, Darryl Woods of Statesville, and Francine Mott of Statesville; great aunts and great uncles, Stephanie Williams, Kathy Lackey, Joann Sturdivant, Sylva Lewis, and Robert “Bob” Nichols; his godmothers, Shanequia Freeman and Christy Rucker; his dog, Eden Girl; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 2 p.m. at The Mary B Bigham Chapel of Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home.
Legacy will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home where members of the family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., but will assemble at the residence, 279 Wood Bridge Road, Statesville, at other times.

So sorry. Legacy would hug Ava (my daughter) every single morning so she did not feel afraid to leave her mommy. Then he would take her hand and walk her through the class until she was ready to start her day. I knew they would be friends forever. My heart hurts for your family.
