Leonilde Gomez Ruiz, 84, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at her residence.

She was born on May 2, 1940, in Colombia to the late Jesus Maria Gomez and Fany Ruiz Gomez. Leonilde married Ruben Reyes in 1980, and they moved to Statesville in 1999. She worked at JC Penny, where she retired many years later. She was a very active person with her flower garden, playing Parque’s, exercising, and other activities. Mrs. Ruiz was very friendly, believed in taking care of family, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Alba Gomez, Tulio Gomez Ruiz, Octavio Gomez Ruiz, Alexander Gomez Ruiz, Fabian Gomez Ruiz.

She is survived by her husband, Ruben Dario Reyes; children, Cielo Cardona (Jose A. Luna), Eduardo Cardona (Angelly), Arley Cardona, Luis H. Cardona, Lilian Cardona, Robert T. Cardona, Luz A. Cardona, and Lisbeth Reyes Gomez; siblings, Luz Alba Gomez Ruiz, Nury Gomez Ruiz, Isaac Gomez Ruiz, Jesus A. Gomez Ruiz, Joaquin Gomez Ruiz, Omaira Gomez Ruiz, Miriam Gomez Ruiz, Fredy Gomez Ruiz, Jesus M. Gomez Ruiz, and Franky Gomez Ruiz; grandchildren, Luiz Eduardo Cardona, Jonathan Cardona, Jossimar Cardona, Luz Adriana Cardona, Angie Cardona, Steven Cardona, Isabella Cardona, Juan Camilo Reyes, Marypaz Cardona, and Antonella Cardona; great grandchildren, Valeria, Valentina, Jhon Byron, Nicole, Christopher, Luna, Allison, Alondra; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. with a prayer service at 2 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
