Lester “Bob” Robert Dillon, 76, of Davidson, N.C., passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Atrium Health Cabarrus following a prolonged respiratory illness.
He was born on December 1, 1947, in Princeton, W.Va., to the late Ethel Perfin Dillon and Harold Dillon. Bob was a 1965 honorary graduate of Princeton High School and graduated from Florida Southern University and Florida Atlantic University, where he obtained his master’s degree. He retired in 2002 after a wonderful career of 26 years at Duke Energy as VP of Human Resources. Following his retirement, Bob treasured teaching his fifth-grade junior achievement classes, and often, while out in the community, you could hear excited former students’ voices shrieking “Mr. Bob! Mr. Bob!” He had a way of connecting with those students and would often use sports-related lessons to help them grasp new business concepts. For over 20 years, Bob served on the Board of Directors for LifeSpan Services. He was passionate about their mission of helping children and adults with disabilities flourish in their communities.
Bob also stayed well connected to his former classmates and teammates from Princeton Elementary and Princeton High School and his family would host many reunions at his home on Lake Norman. The Lake was so special to Bob that he accomplished his goal of designing a lake home where he enjoyed entertaining friends and family. Bob will be remembered for his love of sports, especially the Carolina Panthers, where he was an original PSL owner. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and co-worker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Devin Kiser.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Shelia Dillon of Davidson; children, Ashleigh Dillon of Charlotte, Josh Dillon and wife Sara of Troutman and Mike Kiser and wife Allison of Mooresville; grandchildren, Tessa (16), Austin (15), Ainsley (14), Avery (11), and Brielle (10). Also surviving are his brothers, Tom Dillon and wife Kay of Venice, Fla., and Jim Dillon and wife Mary of Matthews, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews
Due to Bob’s love of the lake and water, the family has chosen Serenity Aquamation. A private Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Junior Achievement (JA of Central Carolinas) or LifeSpan Services.
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Dillon family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
