Louis Robert Moretz, also known as Robert, Rob and Bob, 90, of Troutman, N.C., and previously of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, July 12, 2024. Born on February 1, 1934 to the late Mabel and Paul Moretz in Boone, N,C., he was one of eight children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anne Dunlap; and his brothers, Marshall “Mark” Moretz, Kenneth Moretz and Bernard “Paul” Moretz.
He began his successful career serving as a Corporal in the U.S. Army, where he worked directly for the Lieutenant General of Battalion 734THAAA. During his service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal. Upon his discharge, in September of 1955, he entered into the field of telecommunication, where he traveled around the United States setting up the framework for nationwide coverage at General Telephone and Electronics Corporation (GTE). As he progressed in his career, GTE merged to form Verizon Communications (VCTR), where he worked until retirement.
Upon retirement, he quickly fulfilled his dream of returning to the Tar Heel State to build his dream home on Lake Norman, where he was closer to his siblings and extended family. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, playing golf, putting puzzles together and showing his family and friends a good time. He will forever be remembered for his enthusiasm for gardening and his delicious cream corn that had everyone begging for more.
The most important thing to him was his family and he will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, neighbor and good friend.
He leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished by his survivors, including his beloved wife of 61 years, Sylvia Moretz of Troutman, N.C.; daughters, Janell Moretz of Raleigh, N.C., Angela Davidson and her husband Chuck of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; son, Mark Moretz of Cornelius, N.C.; grandchildren, Logan Henderson of Raleigh, N.C., Hanna Henderson of Washington, D.C., Drew Davidson of Mooresville, N.C., Cole Davidson of Fuquay Varina, N.C., and Ian, Colin and Meredith Moretz of King, N.C.; sisters, Elsie Carter of Statesville, N.C., Wilma Ragan Simpson and husband Jack of Boone, N.C.; brother Ernest Moretz of Taylorsville, N.C.; and many nieces, nephews and friends scattered throughout the country.
