Margaret Lee Hager Armstrong of Davidson, N.C., passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville, N.C. Born on Monday, April 5, 1926, she was blessed with 98 years of life.
Margaret was a long-time member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Davidson and was an active member of The Homemakers Sunday School Class, and she attended regularly until her declining health. She worked for many years at Mooresville Mills (Burlington) and retired from Elox Corporation in Davidson after more than 30 years.
After retirement, she kept her great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren in her home. With more love to give, she also worked part-time in the nursery at Mt. Zion Church in Cornelius, Northcross Lanes (now Sparetime) in Huntersville, and at River Run Tennis Courts in Davidson. She kept children occasionally in their homes, and even her own home.
Margaret was born to Lonnie “Lum” Lafette Hager and Hattie Irene Hill Hager in Mooresville and was one of ten children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Leonard Robert Armstrong; both parents; six brothers: Clarence, Jay, Ross, and Dewey Hager all of Mooresville, Rev. Tom Hager of Statesville, and Rev. Ruben Hager of Stony Point; and two sisters, Artie Stewart and Edna Robertson, both of Mooresville.
Margaret is survived by her only child, Anita (Todd) Beaver of Davidson; and a sister, Rachel Messick Schnauz of Mooresville; her beloved grandchildren, Kevin Childress of Pfafftown, and Melissa (Charles) Childress-McWhorter of Troutman; great-grandchildren, Kayla (Wade) Smith of Salisbury, Bailee (Jared) Pethel of China Grove, and Gabbi Childress of Concord; great-great-grandchildren; Titan and Hattie Cook, and Salem Pethel; and many nieces and nephews. She was a “mother/grandmother” to many, many children over her long lifetime.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, December 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Sunday, December 29, at 3 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church, Davidson, with Rev. Sammy Pierce officiating. The body will lie in state from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
