Marion Sims “Sonny” Broach, 84, of Mooresville, N.C., peacefully went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

Sonny was born June 19, 1940, in Lancaster, S.C., to the late Herman and Willie Mae Broach. He loved many things, including the Lord, his family, his community, his church and his country. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and so much more.

After returning from his service in the Navy on the USS Norfolk, Sonny began his career with Duke Energy in Lancaster, S.C. Years later, he and Janice relocated to Clover, S.C. Sonny became a member of Clover First Baptist Church and served there for many years, welcoming everyone to learn about the Lord. He provided leadership in the Lions Club, the United Way of Clover/Lake Wylie, the Clover Rotary Club and Lake Wylie and Clover’s Chambers of Commerce. Sonny also founded and organized CloverLEAF (Clover Leaders for Educational Advancement Foundation), an educational foundation that provides teachers with support for projects that school districts are unable to fund. He received many awards for his dedication to community service such as the Paul Harris Fellowship Award by Clover Rotary Club and Duke Power’s “Power in Education” Awards for exemplary programs.

In his free time, Sonny enjoyed watching Panthers football games and rooting for his alma mater, the University of South Carolina. Sonny was an award-winning cross stitcher and created beautiful works of art for his family to enjoy. Sonny loved to square dance and travel the world with his wife Janice. He shared his love for cars and model cars with his son, Eric. However, Sonny’s favorite thing to do was relax and enjoy a newspaper and some quality time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his brothers, Gary, Tommy and Nolan Broach.

His legacy is carried out through his survivors, including his wife of 64 years, Janice Broach; and son, Eric Broach (Stephanie). He is also survived by his granddaughters, Rachel Whitmire (Bobby) and Lauren Tyson (Kenny).

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 5, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a service following at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Stafford and Rev. Dave Stanford officiating. Burial will follow the service at 3 p.m. at Lancaster Memorial Park, Lancaster, S.C.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the nurses, physicians and staff that provided care during Sonny’s last days. Their kindness will never be forgotten.
