Melissa Sue Cowen, 36, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024. She was born on October 12, 1987, in Colorado to Clyde Bennet Cowen and Ann Markway Cowen.

Melissa enjoyed being outdoors in nature planting bulbs and flowers or in the woods hiking. She had a great interest in antiques, and loved to bake. Spiritually, Melissa was strong in faith and she loved her family dearly. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lee and Mart Markway; paternal grandfather, Henry Cowen; and her beloved cousin, Laura Cowen.

In addition to her parents, those left to cherish Melissa’s memory are her sister, Corrin Cowen, and brother-in-law, Kevin Forlino of Everett, Wash., and paternal grandmother, Joy Cowen of Texas.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville.
