Michael Ervin Carter, 69, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Michael, known as “Mike” to many, was born on May 27, 1955, in Charlotte, N.C., to the late Conrad Carter and Margaret Jones Carter. Mike attended West Charlotte High School. He built a successful career in the automotive industry that culminated with his dream of being his own boss through owning and operating a Matco Tools franchise.
Mike’s family is his greatest legacy. He shared nearly 50 years of marriage with his wife Harriett and raised two sons – Eric and Jason – of whom he was incredibly proud. A true family man, Mike’s early years were spent coaching his sons’ football and baseball teams, teaching them how to use power tools, and ensuring they knew how to drive a boat on Lake Norman. He loved tending his garden (especially his tomatoes!), grilling wings with a tequila in hand, and watching NASCAR on Sundays. In later years, Mike found great joy in watching his granddaughters – who affectionately referred to him as “Grumpy” – splash in their backyard pool. Mike had a fantastic sense of humor, lived his time here on earth to its fullest and will be dearly missed by his family and lifelong friends.
Mike will always be remembered by the family he leaves behind: wife Harriett Eury Carter of Mooresville, N.C., sons Eric Carter (Camerone) of Huntersville, N.C., and Lt. Col. Jason Carter (Sarah) of Springfield, Va.; granddaughters, Charleston, Claire and Emma; brother Steve (Judy); and many other friends and loved ones, including his sweet dog, Bailey. Mike was preceded in death by a son, Christopher.
A service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville, N.C. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
