Murray Jack Miller, MD, 85, of Mooresville, N.C., and formerly of Lauderdale by the Sea, Fla., passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024, surrounded by his children and their spouses. He was born November 16, 1938, in Syracuse, N.Y., to the late Anna and Samuel Miller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Roslyn, and brothers Raymond, Seymour and David.

After graduating from Upstate Medical Center at Syracuse University in 1964, he served in the U.S. Army as a flight surgeon and was stationed in Vicenza, Italy. After three years, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Major. South Florida became his home.

For almost 60 years he practiced medicine, and his biggest legacy was his service as a dedicated endocrinologist who went above and beyond for his patients. A diabetes specialist, he loved his job and did not fully retire until well into his seventies.

His second favorite place was on the basketball court, and you could find him at the local park playing with men half his age. He loved to brag about this. A dedicated Syracuse Orangemen and Miami Dolphins fan, not only did he enjoy going to games, but he also enjoyed collecting memorabilia.

He leaves behind his daughter, Roslyn, and her husband Christopher; his daughter, Kristin, and her husband Tommy; and his son, Daniel, and his wife Monica.

A celebration of life crypt side ceremony will be held by the family on October 18, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Garrett-Hillcrest Cemetery in Waynesville, N.C.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the hospice nurses, physicians and staff at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville for their support, compassion and unwavering dedication to Murray and his family.
