Mrs. Nina Renae Hayden Polk, 72, of Statesville, N.C., was born in Washington, D.C., on July 30, 1952, to the late Willie LeRoy Berry and Beulah Mae Bellamy. She departed this life on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Renae was married to Chester Polk, who survives.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by, a sister, Linda Kaye Berry; and a grandson, Shannon M. Lackey.

Renae attended Statesville High School and was employed in manufacturing for years. She was a loving and kind hearted person, always there to help, anyway that she could. Renae loved her family and will truly be missed.

She leaves to cherish the memories of her life, in addition to her husband Chester, one daughter, Yvonne Lashay (David Andre Leach) Lackey; five sisters, Angela Faye Berry, Donna Holmes, Sybil Arroya, Diane Dunn (Benn), and Joseyline (Richard) Wingsong; two brothers, Jeffrey (Chris) Atako and David (Ann) Atako; one aunt, Mildred Bellamy Hunter Heard; four grandchildren, Jasmine Lackey, Jocelyn Lackey, Destiny Lackey and Jacolby Lackey; eight great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will held at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m.
