Noey “Sonny” Gaston Hayes Jr., 77, of Harmony, N.C., and formerly of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Rosewood Assisted Living in Harmony. Sonny was born in Iredell County, N.C., on August 22, 1946, to the late Mary Ada Shoemaker Hayes and Noey Gaston Hayes Sr.

Sonny was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Chambers and Carol Campbell. He is survived by three sisters, Margie Campbell of Florida, Barbara Sloan (Wayne) of Harmony, and Brenda Fowler (Don) of Nebo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sonny was talented in playing many instruments and at one time played in a band. He was loved by many because of his kindness and gentle nature.

A Graveside Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, February 7, 2024, at Harmony Town Cemetery with Pastor Chris Lakey officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following in the cemetery after the service. Pallbearers honoring Sonny will be Mike Gaither, Daniel Gaither, Chris Gaither, Adam Christopher, Eli Christopher, and Robert Campbell.

The family would like to thank Rosewood Assisted Living for the loving care Sonny received.
