Nolan Gary Alexander, 78, passed away on August 29, 2024. Gary was born on August 6, 1946, in Iredell County. He graduated from Stony Point School in 1964. He served three years in the U.S. Army. He was employed (retired) as an Estimator in construction. He was a bi-vocational Music Director, serving three local churches for over a period of 50 years. He was presently serving New Bethany Baptist Church for 32 years. Gary enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed music.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marilyn Hepler Alexander. He is also survived by two children, Aleisa (Robert) Baker of Asheville and Rev. Brian (Kandi) Alexander of Lexington. Three grandchildren also survive, Coleman Baker of Asheville and Bradyn and Makena of Lexington. He is also survived by two sisters, Anita Alexander of Newton and Marilyn Beckwith of Virginia, and two brothers of Stony Point.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nolan and Inez Alexander, and his father- and mother-in-law, Howard and Lessie Hepler; and brother-in-law, Dennis Hepler.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Fairview Baptist Church. Rev. Dale Ellis, Dr. Scott Eanes, Rev. Darren Johnson, and Rev. Bill Mason will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be Roger Drum, David Drum, Stephen Burgin, Coleman Baker, Rusty Chapmen, and Toby Talley. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Troutman Funeral Home from 5 until 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made in Gary’s memory to Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina, 515 Blackwell Blvd., Thomasville, NC 27360.
