Opal Mae Stumbo Knight, 70, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024, at her home following a brief illness. Mae was born in Indianapolis, Ind., April 25, 1954, to the late Willard Stumbo and Opal Beaunice Raines Stumbo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Cornelius Knight Jr.; four brothers; one sister; and one stepdaughter, Kendra Knight.
Survivors include one son, Rodney Hall, and wife Tara of Statesville; one stepdaughter, Kristy Knight-Cagle, and husband Chuck of Winston Salem; one brother, Johnnie Stumbo of Statesville; one sister, Barbara Stumbo of Winston-Salem; two step-grandchildren, Lindsay and Aaron; one niece, Cassandra Stumbo; and one special great niece, Jaila Stumbo.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Chapman Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Rev. Robin Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at Hiddenite Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105; and the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown MD 21741.

Mae was a dear friend of my sister that passed away few years ago. They were friends for a long time. Mae, I will miss you. You have your wings now. You are with my sister. I loved you. I miss my sister so much. Thank you for being there. You are truly loved.
