Mr. Preston Nelson Chambers was born in Iredell County on September 22, 1970, and was the son of Clyde Caper Strickland and Peggy Chambers Gamble. He departed this life on Thursday, July 4, 2024, following an extended illness.

He attended Statesville High School and at one time was employed by Tyson Feed in Harmony and North Wilkesboro. At an early age, he attended Mt. Carmel Apostolic Church.

Preston, who was affectionately known as Ned to some and Veno to others, was a man of few words. He wore a smile that won’t be forgotten. He was clean cut and fresh shaven. His pants were always pressed, and his shoes always right. During his school days, he played football, which aided to his becoming a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. He worked different jobs throughout his life but his most rewarding job was cooking, cleaning and taking care of his family. He was the housekeeper, the chauffeur, and Mr. Fix It. He loved people, especially babies. He was a good-hearted man and helped people who could not return the favor and he forgave owed debts. Ned was a gifted artist and was often hired to sketch portraits. He effortlessly drew images of praying hands, which was an indication of his reverence for God and his belief in prayer. Ned used his love for music and nice automobiles to make others happy by installing stereo systems into their vehicles. He loved his family and was rarely seen without his son at his heels. His loved very much the mother of his children, Sabrina Reid. Together they raised seven children and provided respite for extended family members. For more than 15 years, Ned and Sabrina managed a plan that worked for their household. However, the past eight months he became physically debilitated due to sickness and failing health. Ned required around-the-clock care. His mother became his primary caregiver, only leaving his side when it was necessary. Her support team are to be recognized and praised, including aunt Barbara Chambers, aunt Mary Chambers Knox, aunt Juanita Connor Chambers, uncle John Henry Chambers, and sister Rosa Carr. Together they worked a schedule that any employer would be proud of. Their efforts made his quality of life better. Ned, we love and miss you, but we know you are healed.

He leaves to cherish the memory of his life his mother, Peggy Chambers Gamble of the home; his siblings, Rosa (Brandon) Carr, Ernest Antonio Chambers, Cameron Mark (Amber) Leach, Sandra Strickland, Kenya Strickland, and Nyasha (Tyrone Rankins Strickland; his children, PreAnna Chambers, NaeAnna Chambers, Nadia Chambers, and Preston Jr. Chambers; his grandchildren, Kaayson Chambers, Messiaah Chambers, A’laylah Harrison, De’Carter Paulin and Blessyn Paulin (in the oven); step children, Samare Reid, Aliyah Jones and Jaylen Jones; his step grandchildren, Janelle Jones and Ausin Moss Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
