Priscilla Rioux Dumond peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024. She was 92. Mom was born on the 28th of April in 1932, the third of six children born to Romeo Rioux and Regina Michaud Rioux, in Fort Kent, Maine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Llewellyn, and his wife Aurora; her sister, Louella, and her husband O’Neil; her brother Maurice (Hellena); and her brother, Clinton (Vernette). Her sister, Diane, and husband Leo, survive to cherish her memory.
Mom and Dad had five of us, Joseph (deceased), Michael (Deborah), Donna (Gary), Marc (Judi), and Scott (deceased) (Lisa). At 4-foot-10 and 116 pounds, it was amazing how big and scary she could be if you were caught doing what you maybe hadn’t quite thought through.
During their nearly 70 years of marriage, Mom and Dad led a charmed life, mostly because of their wonderful children, on whom they doted, and on whom they wished for nothing but peace and harmony with each other.
Mom was an elementary school teacher and taught for nearly 40 years. Due to Dad’s job, we moved a lot — 26 times at least, including twice to Asia and three times to Europe. Throughout each adventure, Mom and Dad did their best to ensure we learned something about where we were, who we were with, and where we fit in on this big, blue marble. We always had each other to learn from and to lean on when something went unexpectedly sideways, and we still do.
Mom and Dad considered themselves blessed to have welcomed six grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren into what we referred to as the Dumond Flying Circus; as well as their 10 brothers and sisters-in-law; and over 40 nieces, nephews, and a large handful of God’s children. Every one special and holding a bit of their hearts over the miles.
Mom loved flowers — loved flowers. She was happiest when Dad was digging in the dirt, and she was directing him. It may have been a small penance for him to pay for unerringly finding the most expensive item in any department store throughout their world travels, and then insisting that his life would not be complete without it?
So, for Mom, we’d like to suggest, in her memory, to please send flowers. Not to us, but maybe to someone you haven’t seen in a while, or maybe you saw them yesterday, a friend you’d like to touch base with, your cousin across the country, your great aunt or uncle who’d love to hear from you, maybe a sibling, son, daughter, niece or nephew, or that lonely person up the street. Your limit is your imagination. But do it and send Mom a little smile to let her know you were thinking of her too.
Services and interment will occur at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, where her husband is also interred.
