Raymond Joe Freeman, 87, of Statesville, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2024, at his home. He was born March 30, 1937, in Buncombe County, N.C., to the late Chester Aaron Freeman and Rachael West Freeman.

Mr. Freeman worked in data processing and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and bowling, and driving/delivering cars for the Auto Auction.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James Aaron Freeman; one brother, Ralph Freeman; and one sister, Faye Rogers.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Loretta Hawkins Freeman of the home; two sons, Ronnie Freeman and wife Ruth Ann of Waxhaw and Harold Freeman and wife Kimberly of Belmont; one daughter, Pamela Russ and husband David of Salisbury; one sister, Betty Jean Mintz of Asheville; five grandchildren, Matt Freeman and wife Carissa, Nick Freeman and wife Renee, Jonathan Freeman, Audrey Freeman and Krista Gainey; nine great grandchildren, Cody, Ryah, Ely, Ava, Sam, Brandie, Crystal, Kathryn, and Hanna; four great great grandchildren, Jacob, Brennon, Jaxon and Briella.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday August, 20, at 11 a.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. There will be no formal visitation. Pastor Chris Haizlip and Pastor Dermont Crabtree will officiate.
