Ms. Rebecca Beck Calhoun was born in Washington, D.C., on July 28, 1957. She was the daughter of the late Elder John C. Calhoun Sr. and Panella L. Heard Calhoun. She departed this life on November 11, 2024 at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, N.C.

She began her career at the age of twenty, working at the Washington Hospital Resource Center in the Human Resource Department in Washington, D.C. While attending Montgomery College in Takoma Park, Md., and a tech college in Washington, D.C., she studied Business Administration. In 2012 her dream was to continue her education and pursue a degree in General Occupational Technology and Office Administration. and at the age of 59 she graduated with honors in 2016 from Mitchell Community College.

Sister Rebecca grew up in the church under the leadership of her late father, Elder John C. Calhoun Sr. In 1997 she began to fellowship with Rapture Preparation Church of Christ #5 in Statesville and later attended Refuge Church of Christ in Troutman, N.C., under the leadership of Elder Gary Clark. Sister Rebecca’s journey continued in Charlotte, N.C., as a member of The Living Church Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Dr. Ronnie Parson. She attended the same organization, The Living Church in Statesville, until her passing under the leadership of Elder Otha Thornton Jr.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandsons, Deshaun L. Bay and Mason A. Calhoun; two brothers, Franklin Calhoun and Floyd Calhoun; niece Angel Shereta Calhoun; and special lifetime friend and godmother Mary.

She leaves to celebrate the memory of her life her son Pressley D. Calhoun Sr. (Tamara) of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren, Trenton, Demetrice, Trinity, Pressley Jr., Ava, and Elijah; one sister, Diane Bingham (devoted sister and caregiver) of Statesville; two brothers, John C Calhoun Jr. of Statesville and Mitchell Calhoun of Greensboro, N.C.; one great-grandson, Nehemiah; special and dear friend Bertha Foster; and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
