Rebecca Sue Callahan, 83, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away on June 13, 2024, at home from the effects of chronic health conditions. She was born in Statesville, N.C., on August 3, 1940, to the late Maude Alieen Harmon Daniels and the late Roe Marshall Daniels.

Mrs. Callahan was a graduate of Central High School and Appalachian State University. She was an elementary school teacher in the North Carolina and Maryland school systems. Having grown up on their family’s dairy farm, “Daniels’ Diary Farm,” she would tell stories of picking cotton and stringing tobacco and enjoying the rural farm life. She was a faithful member of Methodist churches in the towns where she resided and a regular and faithful Sunday school member. All admired her “green thumb” abilities and knowledge as she cultivated her house plants, yard plants and shrubbery. The annual summer beach week at Kiawah Island, S.C., with family and relatives was a yearly highlight she very much enjoyed along with U.S and International travel. Her skill in making many Southern meals and dishes has been enjoyed by many over the years.

Sue is survived by her husband, Roger Callahan; and son Michael Callahan and his wife Julie (Seeley) Callahan; and their two children, Lauren Aileen and Joshua Michael. She is further survived by her sister, Frances Marlene Green, and brother, Kent Daniels and wife Dinah. Her late brother, Sam Daniels, proceeded her in passing. Her extended family, who she loved dearly, includes Brandy Daniels, Danielle and Gantt Folline, Corey and Michelle Green, Todd and Angie Daniels, Kelly and Kristin Daniels, Hans Daniels, and all their children.

A graveside service for friends and family will be scheduled at Friendship Methodist Church, 907 Friendship Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Service details will be published once they are finalized.
