Richard Loyd McIntosh Sr., 87, of Davidson, N.C., went to be in the arms of his beloved wife of 55½ years, Carolyn, on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville, N.C.

He was born on September 2, 1937, in Gaston County, N.C., to the late Henry and Mabel (Hager) McIntosh. Mr. McIntosh worked for Transco Gas Company. In 1993, after 31 years of service he enjoyed retired life. He was a member of Davidson United Methodist Church. In his free time, he enjoyed restoring John Deere tractors, watching his generations of grandkids play and grow, and spending time in his shop.

He thoroughly enjoyed having his family together, even if you could hear the chaos from a mile away! When he was not spending time with family, he enjoyed restoring and tinkering with antique John Deere tractors with his sons — so much so that he became a member of the Stumptown Tractor Club. After becoming a member of the club, he got the whole family involved. If you ever attended the Davidson Christmas Parade, you would have seen not only his collection, but his legacy. Nothing put a smile on his face faster than a baby on his lap. He always said, “There is nothing like babies, except more of ’em!” As you can see, he was serious about that!

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Hager McIntosh; daughters, Janice Renee McIntosh and Sondra Curtis; son, Richard L. McIntosh Jr.; brothers, RH, Ruben, and Raymond McIntosh; and great granddaughter, Kelsey Jones.

Richard is survived by daughter, Cheryl Fitzpatrick; son, Scot McIntosh (Janie); daughter-in-law, Cathy McIntosh; son-in-law, Ricky Curtis; grandchildren, Michael Curtis, Sabrina McIntosh, Tim Fitzpatrick (Laura), Jodie Williams (Ralph), LaNell Jones (Riggs), Erin Fitzpatrick (Michael), Ashley Casarella (Jordan), Janice Pruitt (Travis), Ben Fitzpatrick (Nichole), Brittney Trevathan (Ryan), Rikki Shull (Corey), Joshua McIntosh (Kaytlynn), Richard “Trey” McIntosh III, (Sydney), Zachary McIntosh (Spencer), Cynthia McIntosh, Samatha McIntosh, Savannah McIntosh, and Elijah McIntosh; great grandchildren; Baylee Williams (Grayson), Kaige “Biscuit” Williams, Kamdyn Casarella, Bryson Westmoreland, Laynie Casarella, Jakson Pruitt, Holden Casarella, Gray Pruitt, Kegan Fitzpatrick, CJ Jones, Tony McIntosh, Ayden Shull, Julia McIntosh, Richard “Mac” McIntosh IV, Noah Shull, Allie Jones, Charlotte Fitzpatrick, and Oliver Trevathan; and great-great grandchild Ryder Williams.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. with a service following at 3 p.m. at Davidson United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Humphries officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mimosa Cemetery in Davidson.
