Robert Terrance Shipman, 58, of 1860 Simonton Road, Statesville, N.C., was born in Newark, N.J., on January 30, 1965, and was the son of Patricia Ann Sasser Shipman and the late Benjamin Shipman. He passed away on January 15, 2024.
Affectionately called Bobby, he was married to Chanda Lynn O’Neal Shipman, who survives. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Constance Shipman; and two children, Indira Dallas Shipman and Ivy Dallas Shipman.
He attended Lyndon High School and lived in New Jersey for many years. He later relocated to Statesville and was added to the Highland Acres Church of Christ in Statesville.
In addition to his wife, Chanda Lynn O. Shipman of the home and his mother, Patricia Ann S. Shipman, he is surived by two sons, Robert Terrance Shipman of New Jersey and Desmond Thomas Hylton of Statesville; one daughter, Michelle Monique Shipman of New Jersey; his bonus children, Devon Hylton and Tanaye Meade, both of Statesville, and Taneice Thomas of Salisbury; his brother, Anthony Shipman of New Jersey; his mother-in-law, Barbara Ann O’neal Payne of Salisbury; and a host of in-laws; aunts, uncles, beloved cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Highland Acres Church of Christ. Mr. Shipman will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 12:30 p.m. Members of the family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
