Rosa Emerencia Martinez, 93, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully on Monday, October 15, 2024, at Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, N.C.

Rosa was born on January 23,1931, in Regla, Cuba, a small town just outside Havana. She was the daughter of an entrepreneur who owned a construction supplies company. As a young adult, she joined her dad’s company and helped manage the business until it was seized by the Cuban Communist government in the early 1960s. In 1967, Rosa and her family fled Cuba and settled in Miami, Fla., where she and her husband raised their daughter, worked hard and built a wonderful life. In 2012, she moved to Mooresville to live close to her daughter.

Rosa was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, affectionately referred to as “Mamo Mo.” She is survived by her daughter, Anabel Gonzalez; husband, Mario; and her grandchildren, Isabelle and Nicholas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Martinez; her sister, Elisa Gonzalez; and her brothers, Miguel and Nicolas Alvarez; her parents, Bernardo and Francisca Alvarez; and many other relatives and close friends.

Rosa was a woman of solid Christian faith and was loved and admired by all who knew her. She had a warm, friendly demeanor and greeted everyone with a big smile on her face. Dominoes was a favorite pastime, a game she played daily, finding joy and connection with loved ones and friends around the table. She was also a baseball fan and followed the Miami Marlins closely. Her life was woven with threads of love and kindness, leaving a legacy that touched the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Grace Covenant Church of Mooresville.
