Ruby Faye Patteson Carroll, 92, of Statesville, N.C., went to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Brookdale Peachtree Memory Care in Statesville after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s and, recently, Covid.
Born March 30, 1931, in Mercer County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Jesse R. Patteson and Exie Gore Patteson.
Ruby was a member of Fork Baptist Church in Mocksville, N.C., and during her life was a very loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, and she was a friend to everyone she met.
She was a 1949 graduate of Beaver High School and went to work for Service Storage (which later became Smith’s Transfer Corporation) on April 20, 1949. She continued working for Smith’s Transfer until it closed its doors.
Ruby was active serving the Lord at church most of her life. She loved making things and was a member of the Christian Craft Club in Bluefield, W.Va., for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George M. Carroll Jr.; and her siblings, Crozier Patteson, Pearl Fortner, Clayton Patteson, Kyle Patteson, Tommy Patterson and Betty Long.
Left to cherish her precious memory are her daughter Deborah Sarver (Doug); grandchildren, Douglas Sarver (Becca) and Kristen Goodwin (Josh); great granddaughter Stella Sarver; siblings: Launa Barrett, Rosella Bird, Sue Lilly (Clinton) and James Patteson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield, W.Va., with Pastor Jon Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, W.Va., on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 10 a.m.
Friends and family may visit on Friday from 2 until 3 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
