Ruth Marie Waugh, 90, of Troutman, N.C., passed away February 26, 2024.

Ruth was born in Iredell County on April 17, 1933, to the late Zeb Speaks and Daisy Speaks. Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was a strong woman and the matriarch of the family. She enjoyed spending time with her family and enjoyed cooking for them. Her family all agree “ there is nothing like mom’s cooking.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Waugh; grandson, Curtis Deaton; sister, Inez Pool; and brothers, Jerry Speaks and Gary Speaks.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Roger Waugh of Statesville, N.C., and Danny Waugh (Ann) of Statesville, N.C.; daughters, Debra Hager (Dennis) of Statesville, N.C., Penny Minton (Richard) of Statesville, N.C., Diane Deaton (David) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Carol “Pudding” Waugh of Troutman, N.C., and Jean Marie Waugh of Statesville, N.C.; grandchildren, Brian Waugh, Eric Minton, Keith Waugh, Jessica Vidal, Bradley Minton, Daniel Waugh, Ashley Day, Brent Nixon, James Brooks and Brandon Brooks; 14 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville with burial to follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pallbearer will be Brian Waugh, Keith Waugh, Daniel Waugh, Eric Minton, Brent Nixon, and Brandon Brooks; and honorary pallbearers will be Bradley Minton, James Brooks and Mason Day.
