Sarah Plyler Adams passed away on January 15, 2024, a few weeks shy of her 92nd birthday.
Sarah was born February 2, 1932, to Nathan and Mary Ratledge Plyler. She grew up in the East Monbo area of Iredell County and attended Troutman Schools.
In 1952, she met and married the love of her life, Bill Adams, who died in 1998. They were married 47 years before his untimely death.
Sarah is survived by her three children, Steve Adams (Terrie), Sheryl Adams Burnett (Larry) and Bill(y) Adams. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Stephanie Adams Gantt (Brian), David Adams (Alison), Joseph Adams Burnett (Tiffany), Casey Adams (Kendrick) and Sarah Burnett. She was blessed to have known all seven of her great grandchildren, Maddox and Julia Gantt, Easton and Macklin Adams, and Hadley, Tatum and Webb Burnett. She is also survived by her brother, James “Pete” Plyler, and a niece and nephews that she loved dearly.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Martha Plyler Johnston.
Sarah worked at Public Service Co. for 40 years. When she retired, she worked part time at the Statesville Family YMCA. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where she served on many committees and was especially fond of helping with the children in the nursery. She delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years and was recognized for this effort upon leaving the service. Mom loved serving others.
Mom was fortunate to travel some, getting to see parts of the U.S. that she never imagined she would see. She loved playing cards and eating out with her friends. Until just a few years ago, you could find her walking her dog in the neighborhood or just walking. She enjoyed the beach, her pets and working in the flowers, but more than anything she loved being with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joys of her life. If you knew Sarah, you were blessed and loved.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery with David Comer officiating.
The family would like to extend special thanks to all the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care for the loving care given to Sarah.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Iredell Council on Aging, 344 E. Front Street, Statesville, NC 28677.
Nicholson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Such a sweet lady! Blessed to have known her.
To my uncle Pete and all of the rest of the family, I am so sorry for your loss. I considered Sarah a friend. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
I often stopped and chatted with her when we met in our neighborhood walking our dogs. Such a sweetheart!
Steve, Cheryl and Billy: Your mom was always the happiest and most caring lady I ever met. From my time at Grace Baptist, the band boosters and seeing her walk our neighborhood, she was a beautiful person and will be missed.
