Shelby Jean Wilson Compton, 86, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House.

Born in Iredell County on June 20, 1938, Shelby was the daughter of the late Jonah Alexander Wilson and Maude Campbell Wilson. She was a graduate of Celeste Henkel High School and was a member of Mountain Road Baptist Church. She enjoyed camping and spending time at the beach, and she dearly loved her dog, Peanut.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Steven Compton; brothers, Lonnie Wilson, Jimmy Wilson, and James Wilson; sisters, Louise “Sissy” Cook and Shirley “Tootsie” Sharpe.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 68 years, Joe Compton; son, Tony Compton (Vickie); granddaughters, Caroline Goodson (Chad) and Lindsey Cheek (Cameron); great granddaughters, Sadie Goodson and Stella Cheek; several nieces and nephews; very special family friends, Chad and Crystal Eades; and sister-in-law, Dottie Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, at Mountain Road Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Jamie Fox and Tim Mills. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
