Stephen “Wesley” Smith, 57, of Statesville, N.C., died Friday, August 2, 2024.

He was born in Rowan County, N.C., on August 17, 1966, to the late Matthew Truett Smith and Barbara Ann Cline Smith.

Wesley was a graduate of West Rowan High School, earned two bachelor’s degrees at Catawba College, and earned his master’s degree at NC A&T State University. He worked for the N.C. Department of Corrections for 25 years. Wesley loved to sing, was a collector and loved to spend time with his family.

Survivors include a daughter, Savannah Gayle Smith; a son, Josiah Wesley Smith; the mother of his children, Lana Smith; and a brother, Truett Smith (Deanna).

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Front Street Baptist Church with Rev. Troy Skora and Dr. Robert Jackson officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
