Susan Annette Lentz Stinson, 68, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 10, 2024, surrounded by family after a fierce and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on July 29, 1955, in Statesville and was the daughter of the late Jacob Dalton Lentz fJr. and Janine Ethel Cashion Lentz. She was a graduate of South Iredell High School, received a bachelor’s degree from Lenoir Rhyne University and graduated from Appalachian State University with a Master of Arts in Educational Media.

She worked in the office of the JC Penney warehouse before pursuing her career as an educator. She retired from Mitchell Community College, where she was a professor of Computer Information Systems. She was an avid scrapbooker and her creative ingenuity fulfilled her desire to keep family memories alive.

Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Keith Stinson, on October 25, 1995; a grandchild, Camryn Avery Neal, on March 24, 2007; her father Jacob Dalton Lentz Jr., on November 26, 2013; mother, Janine Ethel Cashion Lentz, on April 2, 2023; and her brother, Jeffrey Dalton Lentz, on January 24, 2023.

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter Christine Annette Stinson Neal (Allen) of Cleveland, N.C.; and two sons, Matthew Steven Stinson and Andrew Keith Stinson of Statesville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Christopher Allen Neal, Jaedon Alexander Neal, Keith Aiken Neal, and Kellan Austin Neal; and special bonus grandchildren, Opal Gainey and Cassidy Lewis; and one great granddaughter, Nevaeh Elizabeth Annette Neal; a sister, Marilyn Lentz Bass (Dale); and a host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Susan’s life will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Troutman Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. At other times, the family will gather at Susan’s home. A private graveside service will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
