Timothy Elmer “Tim” Harris, 79, of Troutman, N.C., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
Tim was born on July 23, 1944, in Charlotte, N.C. He graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1962 and Western Carolina College in 1966. Tim married the love of his life, Methial Nix, on April 9, 1966, and they started their wonderful new life together. Tim lived life to the fullest and was dedicated to God, his family, his friends, and his country.
Tim enjoyed a successful career in sales and was a regional sales manager for Marzetti until he retired in 2009. However, his true passions were family and sports. While at West Mecklenburg, he played football, basketball, and baseball. Tim and Methial quickly grew their family with two sons. Once the boys became active in sports, he adored coaching them in basketball and baseball and attending their high school games. As the grandchildren began their sports adventures, he and Methial could always be seen on the sidelines or stands cheering them on, even soccer matches which he professed to never understand. Coaching his sons, supporting the many grandchildren, and lovingly supporting his three nephews, Randy, Darren, and Steven Early, in their activities were very special to him.
In his retired years, Tim thoroughly enjoyed playing golf with his foursome buddies, Phil Osborne, Steve Ebert, and Bill Raymer; they were like brothers to him. Although he would lament every bad shot during a round, he loved the game and cherished the time spent with his “brothers.” He was known for his quirky, quick-witted humor, which kept his family and his many friends laughing. When Tim was around, fun was to be had. In addition to his family, his TKE brothers were very special to him. He cherished Saturday night steaks on the deck with Methial and any time spent with his family and all his friends.
Tim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Methial Nix Harris; his sons, Brett Harris (Ruth) and Kevin Harris (Ali); his grandchildren, Virginia Norton (Kyle), Philip Harris, John Harris, Mark Harris, Aydenn Harris, and Owen Harris; and great grandson, David Norton. Others that were special to him were sisters-in-law Jane Nix and Cindy Eldridge (Mike); brother-in-law Bill Alexander; nephew Jonathan Baker; and nieces, Katie Sallade and Lesley McCoy.
