Thomas “Tom” Allen Davis passed away on December 2, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C. He was born on June 30, 1947, in Statesville to the late Robert Eugene Davis and Martha Vance Somers Davis.
Mr. Davis retired from the United States Postal Service in 2002 after 36 years of service. He was also a Vietnam Veteran who served in the U.S. Army. While in the Army, Mr. Davis served as staff sergeant of the 1st Battalion 12th Artillery. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert on M14, Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal – Korea. After retiring, Mr. Davis became a beekeeper and was highly involved in the Iredell County Bee Club. He never met a stranger and could often be found at flea markets or gun shows.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his in-laws, William F. Ramsey and Juanita Williams Ramsey, both of Old Fort, N.C.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Susan Ramsey Davis and daughters, Kim Miller (Randy) of Statesville, Lynn Sherrill (Chris) of Shelby, N.C., and Chris Jolly (Wally) of Statesville. He was also an adored PawPaw to Lauren Walker (Bill), Eli Miller, Davis Turner, Daniel Turner and Mark Jolly. Mr. Davis was blessed to have some special cousins left to cherish his memory as well, including Norma Herndon (Bill) of Kings Mountain, N.C., Sally Sigmon (Trigger) of Newton, N.C., John Troutman of Statesville, and Diane Moore of Statesville.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held in the chapel at Troutman Funeral home on Thursday, December 5, at 2 p.m. The family will visit with friends and family prior to the service from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Troutman Funeral Home. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville with full military honors immediately following the celebration of life. Pall bearers will be Eli Miller, Davis Turner, Daniel Turner, Bill Walker, Robert Froyd, and Jody Lambert.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Mr. Davis asks for memorials to be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
