Vivian Frances Ervin Newton, 89, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Autumn Care in Cornelius, N.C.
She was born April 17, 1935, in Mooresville to the late Harry Ervin and Annie Cockrell Ervin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Ray Newton; and sisters, Shirley Owens and Jean Cook.
Vivian was a devoted member of Shearer Presbyterian Church, and many there knew her as a second mom. Her faith was steadfast and unwavering, and she strived to live her life with the love of Christ as a testimony to all who knew her. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of love and faith.
When her children were in school, Vivian worked as a CNA at Brian Center in Mooresville for over two decades. It was clear she loved her patients and had a passion for their care. She was a hard worker with a gentle soul. Many who knew Vivian remember her finding joy in the kitchen, stirring up sweet and tasty treats, such her famous chocolate pie or fresh apple cake she loved to bake and share during the holidays. She also loved to cross stitch and was meticulous about the finished product and often gifted her works to those she loved. Vivian also enjoyed tending to her flowers and feeding the birds, especially hummingbirds.
Vivian is survived by her children, Melanie, Rob, Amy, Aaron (Cindy) and Heidi; grandchildren, Ian and Quaid; and numerous extended family.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, July 24, from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Shearer Presbyterian Church. Services will be at 1 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the church with Rev. Dr. Stephen Stout officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
