On August 28, 2024, at the age of 58, Wendy Louise Lane passed away in her home in Mooresville, N.C. She was with her dog, Bailey, and was so, so loved.

Wendy was born on November 30, 1965, to Donald Lane and Donna Miles Lane. She grew up in Shakopee, Minn., with her parents and her two brothers, Steve and David Lane. She was beloved in her hometown, a journalist and athlete at her high school, and she shared with her family and friends many home-cooked dinners, Sunday masses, and white winters.

In 1992, Wendy married Timothy Portelance. Before separating in 2020, they were together for 28 years and raised four beautiful children, Laney, Austin, Reagan and Lauren Portelance. They lived all throughout the Piedmont of North Carolina, and on any given Saturday they could be found driving to a soccer game, singing along to “Mr. Mom” or “Santa on the Rooftop.” Their house always smelled of Wendy’s baking, Monster cookies and Myrtle’s Turtles, Morning Glory muffins and Darn Good Chocolate Cake. The sweet moments they shared with Wendy will live on with her memory forever.

Wendy exuded courage and self-love, living true to her dreams and following her peace. She was so happy, and she made so many people proud. Her joy touched everyone around her, and here it remains.

Wendy taught her children strength and love, from the day they were born to the day she passed. She is survived by them and by her daughter-in-law, Beth Portelance. She is survived by her parents and siblings, by her friends and neighbors, and by her soon-to-be granddaughter, who she already loved so much.

She’s with the bluebirds now, and she will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 8, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 9, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Mooresville. Burial will follow the service at Northlake Memorial Gardens in Huntersville.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving Wendy’s family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
