William Warren Christie Jr., 85, of Mount Ulla, N.C., peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C. He was born August 19, 1938, in Coddle Creek Township, Mooresville, N.C., to the late William Sr. and Mildred Christie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger brother, Clay Christie.
William was deeply passionate about doing yard work. He loved riding his lawn mower so much. He would not only mow his own yard, but also his father’s, his aunt’s and his brother’s yards. When he would get to the family beach home in Holden Beach, N.C., he would help unload the car and before anything could be unpacked, he was out on his lawn mower mowing that yard too. He never met a blade of grass that he didn’t want to cut! Born and raised on a farm in Mount Ulla, he learned the value of hard work and sweat to make something out of nothing, and he passed that on to his family.
Most important to him was his family, and he will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather (better known as Papaw), brother, uncle and friend.
He leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished by his survivors, including his beautiful wife of 63-plus years, Doris Christie of Mount Ulla; son, Phillip Christie and his wife Michelle of Houston, Texas; daughter, Rhonda Cleary and her husband Richard Cleary of Salisbury, N.C.; grandson, Phillip Christie Jr. of Clarksville, Tenn.; frandson, Joshua Christie of Hawkes Bay, New Zealand; grandson, Zackary Christie of Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Samantha Simerson of Woodleaf, N.C.; great granddaughter, Emma Hellard of Salisbury, N.C.; great granddaughter, Beverly Hellard of Salisbury; great granddaughter, Phoebe Christie of Clarksville, Tenn.; and great grandson, Niklaus Leonard of Woodleaf, N.C.; and his nephews and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Centenary Methodist Church on Monday, July 29, 2024, with visitation with the family from 4 to 4:30 p.m. and followed by the service at 5 p.m.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the Hospice nurses, physicians and staff for their unwavering compassionate and supportive care that was provided. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
