Wilson Godfrey, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, passed away Friday September 20, 2024, at his home.

Born to Allie Byrd and Eva Bruce Godfrey on November 23, 1935, in Hiddenite, N.C., he is survived by the love of his life, Lois Pitts Godfrey, whom he married on June 14, 1958. They were married for 66 years.

He is also survived by his daughters, Sandra Godfrey Johnson (Kenneth Redmond), Karen Godfrey Burke (Richard) and Janet Marie Godfrey. Wilson’s grandchildren are Lauren Lee Johnson (Justin Draughan), Emily Burke Hare (Eli), David Wilson Godfrey Burke (Allison) and Richard Jackson Burke. He has one great-grandchild, Grace Lynn Draughan, and another due in October. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Godfrey Herb.

Wilson was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James Wesley Godfrey, Allie Bruce Godfrey and John Price Godfrey; sisters, Wilma Godfrey Hill, Gladys Lucille Parker, Mary Lois Godfrey Brady, Maxine Godfrey Pharr and Ruth Godfrey Alexander. Wilson was loved by a host of extended family and friends, too many to list.

Above all, Wilson was a man of tremendous faith in God. He lived a life of honor and integrity and was humble and generous beyond measure. He was a lifelong member of Pisgah Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School superintendent, teacher and chair of the cemetery committee.

He graduated from Central High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a master craftsman in the printing industry. Wilson loved baseball and played for many years. His love of sports parlayed into golf, which he enjoyed into adulthood. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and past Master at Stony Point Lodge 593. Late in life, he drew much joy from the simple pleasure of mowing lawns.

A service to celebrate the life of Wilson will be conducted, Tuesday, September 24, at 3:30 p.m. at Pisgah Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Harrold and Rev. Bryon Alexander officiating. Burial with full military honors and Masonic graveside honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 1 until 3 p.m. Serving as active pallbearers will be Wilson Burke, Jack Burke, Brian Howard, Russell Peck, Adawi Revels, Wohali Revels, Robert Burris and Jack Lowrance.
