Betsy Miller Sherrill Jurney, 76, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House.

Betsy was born July 10, 1948, to the late William and Betty Miller Sherrill. Raised in Iredell County, she attended Monticello Elementary School and graduated from Scotts High School in 1966. She was a member of Sharon Lutheran Church and later in life attended First ARP Church. On May 25, 1975, she married Steven F. Jurney, who survives. They had one son, Wesley Miller Jurney, of Statesville, who also survives.

She worked for the CIA in Langley, Va., Voyager Men’s Shop, Carolina Mills, Clark Equipment and Alcatel Cable. She enjoyed going to Topsail Beach, Asheville, and the flea markets in Lexington and Hickory, where she shopped and helped sell produce with many friends. She loved homegrown heirloom tomatoes and green beans. Later in life, she always wore a large, brimmed ladies hat.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister and her husband, Nancy and Jim Gray of Wilmington.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband and son; brother-in-law and wife, Charles and Cathy Jurney of Terrell, N.C.; two nieces, Alicia and Jessica; special friends, Kay Rowland of Shelby; and Jose and Lucy Gonzalez of Lenoir; and fur baby son, Cody.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 17, at 1:30 p.m. at First ARP Church, officiated by Rev. Chuck Evans. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m.
