Brenda Stowe Joyce, 77, of Mooresville, N.C. passed away on Saturday morning, February 1, 2025.
Brenda was born June 16, 1947, in Rockingham County to the late Howard and Estelle Doss Stowe. She was a graduate of Morehead High School in Eden, N.C., and Appalachian State University.
Brenda worked as a teacher for 30 years, primarily as an English teacher at South Iredell High School. At South Iredell, she loved teaching her “kids” and sharing her love of literature. She enjoyed organizing the graduation ceremony each year and serving as the advisor for the Senior Class and the Leo Club. She was a finalist for the N.C. State Teacher of the Year in 1984. After retirement, she enjoyed monthly lunches with her fellow teachers. Brenda was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Mooresville, where she worked with the Women of the ELCA, was a member of women’s circle, taught Bible school, and attended the women’s lunch bunch. Brenda was blessed with a loving and happy marriage with her husband of 55 years, Steve. They especially enjoyed traveling together and had visited all fifty states and many countries. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and loved spending time with grandson Chase.
Surviving are her husband, James Stephen Joyce; daughter, Lara Joyce Reynolds and husband Michael of Hillsborough, N.C.; grandson, Chase Michael Reynolds; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends and family.
Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were sisters Katherine Gillespie (Earl), Genevive Mabry, and Jacqueline Donavant (Lewis); and brothers Leonard Stowe (Ida) and Franklin Stowe (Shirley).
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church (Mooresville) with visitation to be held from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at the St. Mark’s Family Life Center prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, the American Heart Association, or charity of the donor’s choice.
