Brian Alan Sherrill, 57, of Hiddenite, N.C., passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Brian was born on September 25, 1968, to parents Troy (Jeep) and Nancy Sherrill. He was the second of their six boys: two who died young – Gary and Terry – and three who carry on his legacy – Monte, Scott, and Kevin Sherrill.

At the age of two, Brian was permanently mentally handicapped after receiving a flawed strain of the standard measles vaccine for infants.

From early childhood on, he kept three true loves: rides with his “Da-Da” (who passed in 2020), his cowboy boots, and biscuits. His signature greeting – for family and strangers alike – was a head-first run and a wave with both arms stretched out. And then there was his laugh. If you never got the chance to hear it, you missed out. Truly.

Though his life was marked by seizures and medicine, surgeries and scars, Brian’s life was a testament. A testament of strength regardless of circumstance, and the call to make the most of the time we’re given.

A special note deserves to be made for the staff and administration of the Community Alternatives Group Home in Taylorsville. Over the last 30-plus years of Brian’s life, they partnered with our family to provide care for Brian during his adult years. Their kindness and love for him has never gone unnoticed. This day is no exception.

Those who will keep Brian’s memory alive and well include his mom, Nancy Sherrill; his brothers and biggest protectors, Monte (Becky) Sherrill, Scott (Michele) Sherrill, and Kevin (Shirley) Sherrill; his nieces, Katie, Bailey, Vada, and Darby Sherrill; his nephews, Jorge Torres, and Evan (Macey Roden) Sherrill; his great-niece, Torryn Puckett, and great-nephew, Bridger Sherrill; and his friends and caretakers at Community Alternatives Group Home.

Those who preceded him in death include his dad, Jeep Sherrill; his brothers, Gary and Terry Sherrill; his nephew, Michael Aaron Sherrill; and many friends at Community Alternatives Group Home.

A graveside ceremony for immediate family will be held at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, they kindly request donations made to Millersville Christian Academy (MCA), 130 Millersville Church Road, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
