Charles Ray Dorton, 80, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 20, 1945, in Iredell County, N.C. Charles was the son of the late Martha Heglar Lowrance and Marshall Douglas Lowrance and the late Charles William Dorton. He was a graduate of West Rowan High School. Mr. Dorton started as a butcher for Winn-Dixie grocery store and later was a longtime small motor mechanic, retiring from Fiber/Celanese. He was a lifelong member of Centenary Global Methodist Church, where he served as the Assistant Scout Master. He was a president and fire chief for Centenary Fire Department. He loved fishing, gardening, playing golf, and just being outdoors.
Mr. Dorton is survived by his loving wife, Lura Donaldson Dorton; children, Luann Orbson (Rusty), and Chuck Dorton (Stephanie); grandchildren, Regan Garris (Brandon), Victoria Epps (Caleb), Rustyn Orbson, Alex Dorton, Mallory Dorton; and great grandson, Rayden Garris.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Centenary Global Methodist Church with Rev. Brad Treece officiating.
