Clarence Steele Jr. was born on April 23, 1937, to the late Augustus Steele and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Cowan. He entered into eternal life peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at his residence.
Clarence was known to many who knew him as “June.” He was educated at Unity High School, and he worked at Uniglass Industries and Dixie Jeep (Randy Marion), for many years. Clarence loved detailing cars, playing basketball and football, and riding motorcycles. He loved racing his Chevelle. He was married to Dorothy Redmond Steele, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Cedric Steele; a brother, J.P. Steele; and a sister, Martha Allison.
Clarence leaves to cherish the memories of his life two daughters, Juanita (Demond) Sharpe of Statesville and Melissa Thomas of Mt. Holly N.C.; brothers, Jimmy Steele and Dallas (Irene) Steele, both of Harmony; sisters-in-law, Mary Lois Steele and Dorothy Steele, both of Statesville; Beatrice Dalton, and Sandra Houston, both of Harmony; daughter-in-law, Wanda Steele of Statesville; five grandchildren, Tyaysia Sharpe and Whitney Steele, both of Mooresville, N.C.; Ahmad Stevenson of Statesville, and Tyrell (Kimberlee) Steele of Houston, Texas; five great grandchildren, AJ Stevenson and Kylee Steele of Texas, Blaizen Boler of Mooresville, Bryce Steele of Texas and Takalyn Stevenson of Statesville; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life of Life will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. Elder Martha Tucker will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery.
