Cleatus Smith, 89, of the Bethlehem Community passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at his home. He was born July 24, 1935, in Caldwell County, the son of the late Loyce Smith and Eula Canon Smith.

Cleatus proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Guam. He was a faithful member for many years at Smyrna Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

Cleatus was a mechanic and service manager for Valley Chevrolet for many years and was also well known as an Auctioneer. He loved his special furry friend, Major Scott, and enjoyed working. He worked as long as his health permitted.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Eddie Phillips, Clifford Phillips, and Terry Phillips; his grandchildren, Keisha Keever, and Cameo Phillips; his great-grandson, Trent Walker; and his sister Edith Brooks.

Those left to cherish and honor Cleatus’s memories include his wife, Bobbie Smith of the home; his children, Rodney Smith (Jody), Alice Mullins (Randy), David Smith (Lori), and Lorrie Eaton (Michael); his grandchildren, Luke Albrey, Jordan, Andrew, Justin (Sara), Caleb (Ashley), Cody (Karen), Virginia (Raine), Crystal (Justin), Eddie (Kayla), Billy Joe (Heather), Shannon (Charlie), Jessica, and Christopher; his great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Landon (Breanne), Nevaeh, Egan, Valyn, and Jase; and his great-great-grandchild, Oliver.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Smyrna Baptist Church. Rev. Mitch King and Rev. Allen Mullins will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Alexander County Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 p.m. prior to the service.
