Darris Lee Hardin Black, 94, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Friday, January 31, 2025.

Darris was born December 28, 1930, in Cabarrus County and was the daughter of the late David Marion Hardin and Roxy Zanna Anderson Hardin. She was a graduate of J.W. Cannon High School and an alumna of Lee College of Cleveland, Tenn.

On April 9, 1955, she married Benjamin N. Black who preceded her in death. For 64 years, Darris faithfully served alongside her husband as pastor’s wife at Mount Mourne Church of God, Fisher Street Church of God in Kannapolis, Landmark Church of God (on Fifth Street in Statesville), Earle Street Church of God in Kannapolis, Thomasville Church of God, North Belmont Church of God, West Asheville Church of God, Crest Conference Center in Asheville, Royster Avenue Church of God in Shelby and Pastor Emeritus at Landmark Church of God in Statesville.

Darris is survived by her five children, Norman Black (Sandy) of South Carolina, Baron J. Black of Tennessee, Regina King (Allen) of North Carolina, Wendell Black of North Carolina, and Galen Black (Luanne Paschal) of North Carolina; ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

A celebration of life for Mrs. Black will be held Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Landmark Church of God with Pastor Philip Pearson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
