Dennis Lewis White, 80, of Mooresville, N.C., peacefully entered into rest at his residence on February 21, 2025. Born on September 1, 1944, he was the beloved son of the late D.L. White and Patsy Hogan Johnson.
Dennis’s life was a testament to dedication and passion, highlighted by his lengthy career of over 39 years with J.C. Penney Company. After retirement, he followed his true calling in the world of automobiles, embracing each day with enthusiasm. A proud Eagle Scout, Dennis dedicated his time as a Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C., sharing his faith and commitment to community service.
Dennis was known for his zest for life. He was an avid golfer, a skilled tennis player, and a passionate water skier. He embraced the thrill of outdoor adventures, relishing moments spent with family and friends. His love for history shone through in his service on the Mooresville Historical Board, where he worked to preserve the community’s heritage. As the head of the United Way Chapter in Harrisonburg, Va., he made significant contributions to countless lives, exemplifying the spirit of giving.
A devoted father, Dennis cherished coaching his sons in baseball through high school, instilling in them the values of teamwork and perseverance. He found joy in simple pleasures — a good cigar, a glass of bourbon, and the music of Jimmy Buffett, which often provided the soundtrack for unforgettable moments.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his son, Travis White, and several cherished cousins. He leaves behind his loving wife, Ellen Wilson White; son David White and his wife Leslie; as well as several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
The family will announce a Celebration of Life in the upcoming weeks to honor Dennis’s remarkable journey and the indelible impact he had on the lives of those around him.
