Donald Ray West, 76, of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Don was born in Iredell County on February 18, 1949, to the late Herman Grover West and Rozella Lackey West.
He was part of the first graduating class of North Iredell High School, and he served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army from April 1968 until February 1974. He was an instructor for the assembly of nuclear warheads, and he served three years on a NATO Facility in Germany. He was an honor graduate of NCO Academy.
He was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church, and he worked in sales before becoming Regional Sales Manager for Nucor Fastener Division for 22 years until his retirement in 2018. He enjoyed golfing and watching his great-grandson dance and play.
Those left to cherish Don’s memory are his beloved wife of 55 years, Trudy Parlier West; his daughter, Jeri West Shelton; granddaughter, Kayla RaEllen Holestin (John); grandson Cecil Hayden Myers (McKayla); great grandson, Kaius Brendon Holestin; brother, Barry Randall West; mother-in-law, Lucille Combs Parlier; sister-in-law, Teresa P. Daniels (Britt); and nieces, Halley Medlin (Dusty) and Hannah Behrer (Chris).
Funeral services and military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, at Concord Presbyterian Church with Rev. Liz Troyer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends in the fellowship hall prior to the service from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m.
Serving as active pallbearers are Mark Cash, Kenneth Holestin, Dusty Medlin, Ben Conklin, Chris Behrer and Johnny Chapman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concord Presbyterian Church, 3867 Taylorsville Hwy., Statesville, NC 28625.
