Douglas Lee Rimmer, 80, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on January 29, 2025, at home surrounded by family following an extended illness. He was born in Alexander County on April 8, 1944, to the late James Knox Rimmer and Alice Gryder Rimmer.
Doug began his career with the North Carolina Department of Corrections before transitioning to the Department of Transportation, where he spent many years ensuring the safety and efficiency of the roads. After retiring from the DOT, Doug found joy in continuing to work at Southern States, where he spent 28 more years, building friendships and serving the community he loved. Doug was known for his unwavering work ethic, kindness, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. He found great joy in the simple things—spending time with his family, lending a helping hand, and mowing the lawn, a task he truly loved. Whether it was keeping his own yard in pristine condition or helping a neighbor, Doug took pride in every perfectly cut blade of grass. He was a member of Monticello Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one nephew, David Rimmer; one daughter-in-law, Teresa Ann Rimmer; and his sweet dog Sophie.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Linda Keller Rimmer of the home; two sons, Michael Scott Barker and wife Teresa of Statesville and Duane Rimmer of Statesville; one daughter, Renee Rimmer of Statesville; one brother, Steve Rimmer of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Christy Sparks and husband Adam, and Skylar and Macii Rimmer; along with his his four-legged best friend , Apolo, and three grand pups, Izzy, Spencer and Stella.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
