Elaine Johnson Robbins was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the age of 87.
She was born in Iredell County on May 11, 1937, to Claude and Elsie Johnson. She worked as a nurse assistant with Dr. Irvin Scherer, Dr. Edwin Fulghum and Dr Gary Robinson and Dr. James Foxworthy until she retired.
Elaine attended Sweet Home Baptist Church in Union Grove for over 45 years. She was dedicated to the Lord and loved her church family. She served for many years as a teacher of the primary class, working in Vacation Bible School and volunteered where needed. You could always find her in the fellowship hall kitchen washing dishes after any event. She could not carry a tune, but always said, “when I get to heaven, He is going to give me a voice and I will sing praises to Him for eternity.”
Sunday lunches were special to her, and she loved having all her family there. She spoiled her kids trying to make their “favorite” foods. After lunch she would read the Sunday cartoons to the grandchildren until they all (including her) took a nap. She was a loving, giving person and was always there to help in any way she could. She loved her family and covered them in prayer, she was our prayer warrior.
Her neighbors and her friendships were important to her. She looked forward to the August birthday party where we celebrated everyone with an August birthday. There was never a dull neighborhood Christmas party.
She mowed her lawn weekly and sometimes biweekly. She was known for always being in her yard, pulling dandelions, picking up twigs, but mostly for mowing her grass. She was teased about always being on the lawn mower; she took with a smile and kept mowing.
She enjoyed her trips to Morehead and Beaufort. She went out with Noah to fish but never put a reel in her hand; it was his company she enjoyed.
She loved to read history books and The Readers Digest, but most important was her Bible. She read her Bible through every year for more than 25 years. If anyone was trying to find something, she was our “go to” person.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Noah Lee Robbins; and three brothers, Jerry, Jackie and Lloyd Johnson. She is survived by one sister, Kay Johnson Trivette (Grady).
Left to cherish her memory and to live by her example are her children, Althea Lundy Moore (Tom), and Mark Franklin Robbins (Cindy); her grandchildren Meredith, Seth (Mitzi), Ali, and Nathaniel; and her great grandchildren, Nathan (Gracie), Noah, Luke, Addie.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 30, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Sweet Home Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m., with Pastor Chris Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Smith Chapel Church Cemetery.
