On March 19, 2025, Elmer Dwight Johnson, affectionately known as “Mr. Elmer,” peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isolene and Otis Johnson,Sr.; and his siblings, Clarence Johnson, Clay Johnson, Junior Johnson, Raymond Johnson, James Johnson, and Delmar Johnson. He was also preceded by his sisters, Rachel Journey, Marie Cash, and Helen Hall.
Mr. Elmer leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Mary H. Johnson; his son Gene Johnson (Deb); Susan Johnson; his granddaughter Ellen Schneider (Dale); and his great-grandson, Jonas. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Wise (Buddy), Carol Smith, and Pat Stevenson, along with many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
A kind and joyous soul, Mr. Elmer never met a stranger. He was always eager to share a smile and, often, a pocketful of candy with the children he encountered. His unwavering faith in the Lord was the center of his life. He loved participating in activities at Fairview Baptist Church, especially the children’s story time and the hymns that celebrated his faith.
We are all incredibly fortunate to have had Mr. Elmer in our lives. His joyful spirit and loving nature will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. We will forever cherish the memories of how he made us feel happy, loved, and cherished.
A celebration of Mr. Elmer’s life will be held at Fairview Baptist Church on Monday, March 24, at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1 until 2:30 p.m.
