Frank George Johns, 68, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on November 4, 1956, in Lewisburg, Pa., to the late Frank George Johns and Jane McCullough Johns. Frank worked within the United States Federal Court System for 40 years. He was retired from the U.S. Federal Courts for the Western District of North Carolina after 30 years of service. While working, he served on the Court Administration and Operations Advisory Council and was recognized by his peers with the “Angie Award,” the Federal Court Clerks Association’s award for dedicated and excellent career service. He was an Instructor at National Leadership Conference in Gettysburg, Pa. He was honored with the naming of the new wing at the Charles R. Jonas Federal Courthouse in Charlotte called the Frank G. Johns Wing. He was the longest serving active United States District Court Clerk in the nation. He was a published author, writing a children’s book called “The Adventures of Paciboy” to help several of his grandsons transition from dependence on pacifiers.
Frank was a member of Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Mooresville, where he attended the Friday morning Men’s Bible Study. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police-Statesville Chapter and enjoyed helping with Habitat for Humanity. He was the owner of Double Tap Firearms. Frank was a passionate win or lose Carolina Panthers fan but most loved spending time with his family, especially his adored grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Tim Bower.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Shelly Gearhart Johns; children, Lucas Johns and wife Jenn, and Rachel van Nes and husband Hubert; sisters, Linda Bower, and Lucy Newman and husband Wayne; grandsons, Mason, Sawyer, Jasper, Jack, and Frank; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church. A reception will follow the service in the family life center.
