John Alex Bober, 81, of Davidson, N.C., and formerly of Leonardo, N.J., passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025. John was born on May 9, 1943, in Newark, N.J., son of Alexander Michael Bober and Dorothy.

John was an animal control officer for the Township of Berkeley, N.J., for 30 years. He moved to North Carolina in 2013 to be around his family and grandchildren and became an avid farmer of seven varieties of tomatoes — grown in New Jersey dirt that was transported across state lines.

John loved horse racing, enjoyed Monmouth Park, N.J., on the weekends, sharing the love of horses with his family, and betting when he thought he could win.

He had an amazing gift of cooking, curing meats, making homemade Italian wines and sauces and was locally known for giving away most of what he created. Family, friends and neighbors always looked forward to farm season.

Most important to John was his family, and he will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished by his survivors, including his wife of 54 years, Patricia Bober; sons, Al Bober and wife Patty of Cornelius, N.C., John Bober and wife Lisa of Cornelius, N.C.; grandchildren, Alexis and Andrew; and sister Dolores Adolph and husband Robert of Georgetown, Texas; and extended relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held by the family.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the hospice nurses, physicians and staff at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville, Visiting Angels of Cornelius, and his beloved church family and friends for their support from St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the family.
